A Comic Series About the Real Life of Science and Startups
Scienz and Lives is a comic series about the messy, funny, and painfully real world of life sciences startups. Created by the team at JPP Life Sciences Marketing and Business Development, the series blends dry humor, sharp insights, and biotech chaos into one strip at a time. Whether you’re a scientist, entrepreneur, or investor, you’ll probably recognize yourself or your company in one of their panels.
What Is Scienz and Lives?
Scienz and Lives is a webcomic about the behind-the-scenes life of biotech and pharma startups. It follows three characters as they stumble through pitch decks, regulatory landmines, and the ongoing challenge of turning good science into something that actually works in the real world.
- Scienz is the idealistic scientist.
- Lives is the business-minded realist.
- Dr. Celline is the calm, competent expert who usually has to clean up their mess.
Each strip reflects the tension between discovery and delivery, research and reality, hype and hard truth. And yes, it’s funny because it’s true.
The comic is made by JPP, a team that works with real biotech companies on strategy, marketing, and business development. We’ve seen these situations play out over and over. So we started drawing them.
Why Was Scienz and Lives Created?
JPP works with startups, scale-ups, and R&D teams across the life sciences sector. We sit in on investor meetings. We build value propositions. We help companies prepare for regulatory review. And in that work, we kept seeing the same things—teams getting lost between science and business, between what they want to say and what actually works.
Scienz and Lives was our way of holding up a mirror. The characters say the things people think but rarely say out loud. They cut through the fluff and expose the gaps. And they make you laugh while doing it.
Who Are Scienz, Lives, and Celline?
- Scienz is a brilliant optimist. He loves data, believes good science sells itself, and would rather rewrite the protocol than the pitch.
- Lives is his pragmatic counterpart. He focuses on strategy, traction, funding, and compliance. If Scienz is the vision, Lives is the to-do list.
- Dr. Celline is the quiet force of reality. She’s experienced, blunt, and usually right. If Scienz gets excited and Lives gets stressed, Celline just rolls up her sleeves and fixes it.
Together, they capture the internal conflict that defines biotech companies: the push and pull between science, business, and execution.
What Makes the Comic Unique?
Most science comics stop at lab humor. Scienz and Lives goes deeper. It tackles commercialization, regulatory headaches, investor drama, and the unglamorous grind of getting a product to market. It’s made by insiders, for insiders.
Every line is based on real experiences, things we’ve heard in meetings, seen in documents, or watched unravel in real time. That’s what makes the jokes land. And that’s what makes them useful too.
It’s not just a comic. It’s a conversation starter.
Where Can I Read Scienz and Lives?
You’ll find all published strips on scienzandlives.com, as well as on our LinkedIn page. We will also feature them in workshops, keynotes, and training sessions, because nothing helps a team open up like seeing their own mistakes drawn in full color.
Why JPP Made It (and Why It Matters)
JPP helps biotech and pharma companies build strategy, clarify their message, and engage the market. But we also believe in reflection. Most of our clients are moving fast. Too fast to laugh. Too fast to see what’s really going on behind their own slides.
Scienz and Lives helps slow things down for a second. It gives teams a way to talk about the hard stuff. And yes, it brings a bit of humor to an industry that desperately needs it.
We don’t just advise life sciences companies. We understand them. This comic is proof.
